United States, Scott #1734, used(o), 1978, America's smallest postage stamp; in an effort to reduce costs by printing more stamps per sheet, the United States Post Office issued this experimental stamp for use in only five cities to test consumer acceptance; the stamp measures 0.54x0.66 inches, and its smaller size meant that a pane of stamps could hold 150 stamps, instead of the 100 that was standard; the unique issue utilized an image of the 1877 Indian Head Penny, a prized collector coin; the issued resulted in negative feedback from a sampling of customers - the stamp was too small to handle and was easily lost, so the stamp issue was not expanded geographically and was not repeated; issue valued at 13 cents, engraved and printed on the Giori press by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, perforations: 11, Scott 2019 Catalog Value: 25¢, slightly off-centered, two or three color cancellation, the main, a black-inked, probably single rimmed, quarter-to-half circular cancel in the lower left corner, that bled to become a second blue color cancel stain, front and back, in the lower corner vicinity of the first black cancel, the third cancel is a large, red-inked, very faint, broken-up and hollowed-out quarter circular, socked-on-the-nose cancel centered at the lower left and extending over the main image, however, the lightness of this cancel and its broken-up and hollowed-out effects leaves the main image largely clear; centering and image clear cancels warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.55 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.68 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return the stamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postage to you. If the stamp is not as described, I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
