United States, Scott #5762, used(o), 2023, Commemorating Historic Railroad Stations, stamp shows the art deco Union Terminal opened in Cincinnati in 1933 at the height of the Great Depression; the city had become an industrial and commercial center by 1900, as well as the country’s 10th largest city and a major gateway and transfer point for rail passengers traveling between much of the Midwest and the South; the architectural team of Fellheimer and Wagner devised a design that mirrored the prosperity and optimism of the 1920s: a monumental half-dome rising from an enormous, raised plaza, with interior mosaics celebrating the city’s important industries; however, soon after construction began in August 1929, Wall Street crashed and the Great Depression began; the Union Terminal would be among the last great train stations built during the railroad era; designed for a peak operation of 216 trains per day, the station never achieved its potential and passenger service ended altogether in 1972; the city renovated and reopened the station in 1990 as the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the next year Amtrak restored passenger rail service bringing rail life back to the structure; issued as a 'forever' stamp at a counter price of 63 cents, lithography and typography printed, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive gum on multiple stamp panes, multicolored, Scott 2025 Value: 40¢, nicely centered (superb), very light remnant of a large, broken-up and hollowed-out, double-rimmed, red-inked, half circular, socked-on-the-nose cancel over the right edge of the stamp and just into the main image; however, the lightness of the cancel and its broken-up and hollowed-out effects leaves the main image largely clear, stamp also has two vertical folds at top left and top center extending to the middle of the stamp caused when the customer incorrectly removed the stamp from its counter pane, good perforations, stamp was removed from its mailing envelope using a Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for a uniform and attractive album appearance; centering, mounting, and clear cancel warrants a selling price premium, but surface folds call for an adjustment, so a wash.. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return the stamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postage to you. If the stamp is not as described, I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways.
