Souvenir decorative booklet - the official issue of Polish Post, includes one stamp MNH**
Saint Gianna Beretta Molla
On April 30, 2022 a postage stamp of PLN 3.60 of the "Saint Gianna Beretta Molla" issue was put into circulation.
The stamp presents a portrait of Saint Gianna Emanuela Molla.
Gianna Beretta Molla was born on 4 October 1922 in Magneta, Lombardy. She was the 10th child of devout Christian parents who, as laymen, belonged to the Third Order of St Francis of Assisi. When Joan married and was pregnant with her 4th child, the doctor discovered that she had a tumour - a fibroid. To save her life doctors would have to remove her uterus and the life that was developing in it. Joanna (she was 39), firmly declared that she would treat herself after the baby was born. She was a surgeon and paediatrician, so she realised that only one life could be saved. Until her last days, she accompanied her three young children and husband with great cheerfulness. She chose the life of a child. She died shortly after giving birth to her child. Today she is the patroness of mothers experiencing difficulties while waiting for the birth of a child. Gianna Beretta Molla was proclaimed Blessed on 24 April 1994. On 16 May 2004 John Paul II declared her a saint. Every year in the Church 28 April is the day of commemoration of the Saint
Stamp was printed with rotogravure technique on fluorescent paper, size of stamp: 39,5 x 31,25 mm, in edition of 100.000 pieces. A sales sheet contains 50 stamps.
The project was developed in close collaboration with Ms Krystyna Zając, President of the St. Gianna Beretta Molla SOS Family Foundation (applicant and family friend), and gained the approval of the daughter of St. Gianna Emanuela Molla.
